Some reflections on Rabbi Karp's work as a teacher:
"...I have seen why... students love her classes. Rabbi Karp is meticulously prepared for each class, sharing her study goals with her students and keeping them on track toward those goals. She always takes questions, engages students, achieves clarity and can respectfully stop a non-essential tangent dead in its tracks. Her students are unusually satisfied with the balance that she achieves in this regard. Before Rabbi Karp refers to commentaries she asks students for their own interpretation of the text. She encourages them to wrestle directly with it, a central part of her methodology which brings her students to a personal relationship with Torah. No wonder that they return for more!... " Nina
As Genesis quickly unfolded, Molly created a conceptual comfort-zone. She accepted any and all questions, commentaries, and even challenges, with a genuine smile and gratitude. Regardless of the students’ former Biblical study, ‘expert’ and layperson, all attendees were treated equally… warmly. From Eden through Sodom, flood to famine, Molly inserted the students within Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s families, sharing hopes and fears, overcoming evils and tribulations, exposing plots and throughout, contemplating God. It was a truly wonderful and wonder-filled course..." Herb
" Molly is a fabulous teacher, she has a way of imparting information which really gets you to listen and understand. She asks questions of the class to get them to think and doesn’t hesitate to answer any questions you have. And she is brilliant. She has so much knowledge of the Jewish religion. She knows and understands halacha , Jewish History, Hebrew and so much more. I highly recommend her." Ellen
" I have had the pleasure of hearing Rabbi Molly Karp speak on several occasions at my synagogue as a Scholar in Residence. She is an expert at text study which she does in a scholarly but also very creative way. Each time she has come, her audience has grown as the word spreads that she is not someone to be missed. Molly combines rigorous text examination ("Where does the text say that?") with warmth and a sense of humor which makes her incredibly engaging . Her lens is usually from a feminist perspective such as in her text studies of Ruth and Song of Songs, but she appeals to both genders equally. When Rabbi Karp comes everyone knows they are in for an engaging and enlightening experience." Fredda
" For many years Molly was the Adult Education Program at RTOS. While the Rabbi did teach some of the classes and there were other instructors. Molly was the heart of the program. I became an adult Bar Mitzvah while taking classes with Molly. I have since continued my Adult Jewish education, but I have never had a better or more knowledgeable teacher than Molly. I should add that I have had some amazing teachers since then." Ian
