The Book of Psalms:
Give Praise to the Eternal For the Eternal is Good
Join us to read and discuss the poetry that is the Psalms.
The Psalms articulate a range of human emotions
that we may connect to and experience personally,
including lament and gratitude,
praise for God’s goodness or pleas for help and salvation.
Psalms appear throughout our prayerbooks;
we sing them at our times of greatest joy and deepest despair.
No prior knowledge or knowledge of Hebrew needed.

June 12, 19, 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31, August 7, 14, 21
Text is provided electronically.
This Is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared:
The Days of Awe as a Journey of Transformation
Written by Rabbi Alan Lew Z"L,
this book is designed for the weeks preceding
Rosh Hashanah and up to Yom Kippur,
a traditional Jewish period of contemplation and repentance.
We will explore the idea that the real purpose of this time
is for us to open our hearts to God,
and try to re/connect to our faith with a passion and intimacy
that can resonate throughout the year.
No previous knowledge needed.

The Books of Judith and the Maccabees
Judith is a beautiful, clever, and righteous Jewish woman
who saves her people, Jerusalem, and the Temple

Antiochus IV Epiphanes of Syria (175–164/163 BCE)
to the death of the High Priest Simon Maccabeus (135/134 BCE).

and concludes with the defeat of the Syrian general Nicanor
in 161 BCE by Judas Maccabeus.

during the reign (221–205 BCE) of Ptolemy IV Philopator.
